Internet Safety Tips:

These are exciting times to raise a family. Students are exposed to so many wonderful experiences for growth and development. Computer technology has opened up a wealth of opportunities that offer challenge, education, and just plain fun.

The Internet is one terrific way to tap into a whole new world of knowledge that can enhance school performance and improve a child's communication skills.  But just like exploring any new territory, students may encounter some unsafe situations on the Internet that they need to be warned about.

We know you would never send your students out into the world without certain rules and special guidelines to protect them. So, too, should you prepare them before they "surf" the World Wide Web.

We often hear a lot of negative issues regarding the Internet. This kit is designed to be a positive,
interactive guide to Internet safety. Since many students are already pretty savvy about technology, much of
it has been developed from their perspective. When you read it together, you'll find there's information for everyone.

There are rules to clip out and post next to home computers and games students can play while they're learning to be safe. It’s great to keep with your computer books and Internet materials to refer to again and again. Have fun discovering all you can about this new adventure in learning. Let's all fight crime on line together.

Safety Tips for Kids

Hurricane Safety Tips:

Hurricanes are easily tracked and have a long advanced warning period.  However, their intensity, speed, and direction of motion can change quickly.  Nine out of ten hurricane fatalities are caused by either a storm surge-a rapid rise in the water level driven by high winds or subsequent flooding.  This brochure, produced by the Weather Channel, gives guidelines for families to follow and help families prepare for a hurricane.

Do you have a Family Disaster Plan?  It’s time to pull together your supplies kit and make preparations for the unexpected.

Hurrican Safety Tips

Flood Safety Tips:

Flooding poses tremendous danger to both people and property. Since 1900, floods have taken more than 10,000 lives in the United States alone.

Floods and flash floods have caused billions of dollars in damage in recent years.  They are among the most common and widespread of all natural hazards.  This brochure, provided by the Weather Channel’s Project Safeside, will help families prepare for a flood and know what to do during a flood.

Internet Safety Tips:

The internet is very much a part of our lives these days, and provides a useful educational tool for adults and children.  But there is adult material on the internet which is not suitable for children.

Produced by the National Crime Prevention Council in Washington, DC, this brochure gives specific guidelines regarding what your children should and should not be doing on the Internet.
